It's the first Thursday of February...which means it is time for a #ThursdayTidbit from our park rangers!
Did you know you can "camp host" at Sesquicentennial State Park? ⛺🌳
Campground hosts are volunteers, usually a retired couple, that are looking to get out & travel but want a steady purpose in the process. These dedicated campers get to camp without fees, but it is not free. We require a minimum of 20 hours of work per week. Especially on the weekends when we are our busiest!
These hosts are our “eyes 👀 & ears 👂” in the campground. They give information about the park & area, and help our visitors get settled into the campground. Hosts help clean restrooms, help tidy up the campsites, and sometimes even help fill in for other staff at the Welcome Station. Everyone has different strengths 💪; everyone comes from a different background. We like to see what each new host brings to the table, so that they can make a big impact during their time with us. Campground hosts typically stay between 3 to 6 months 🗓️ at one park. Many of our hosts rotate between Sesqui and a few other parks. This way, they can stay in a certain area of the state, and stay familiar with one or two parks’ way of doing things. 🌳🌱🍂🐞🐛
Some of our hosts are visitors to South Carolina, and are originally from several states away. Some hosts have family in the area, and are looking to stay close, but not permanently move to South Carolina. Many hosts want to travel but cannot go too far from their doctor, or family business. Some hosts are local, and just love meeting all the different people that visit our parks. 😎 It is a great way to stay busy in retirement, and still contribute to a fun & meaningful cause. All of our hosts have been huge fans of camping ⛺, and all have had wonderful experiences at our South Carolina State Parks. They want to be a part of a great family of park professionals, helping make great experiences for generations to come! If you want to find out more about hosting at Sesquicentennial State Park, or any of our 47 state parks across South Carolina, please contact the park directly. We hope to see you out here soon! #FriendsOfSesqui
